2016 Sonata Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid feature unique exterior styling elements from the gasoline model with a blend of aerodynamic form and function.

ALL-NEW SONATA HYBRID & SONATA PLUG-IN HYBRID FOR 2016

2016 Sonata Hybrid (HEV)
  • An enhanced hybrid powertrain packing a revised transmission, more powerful electric motor and larger lithium-polymer battery for improved fuel efficiency compared to the 2015 model
    • A 2.0-liter Nu GDI four-cylinder engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission featuring a more powerful 38 kW electric motor and clutch
    • The 1.62 kWh lithium-polymer battery represents a 13 percent improvement in battery pack capacity and sits under the trunk floor allowing for a flat trunk floor and available 60/40 split-folding rear seat best-in-class cargo volume of 13.3 cu. ft. and best-in-class passenger volume of 106.1 cu. ft.

PHEV due to be Wholesale released to dealers in Fall 2015
  • Sonata Plug-In Hybrid has the largest battery system capacity amongst midsize sedans, resulting in class-leading all-electric range (AER)
    • Lithium Polymer Battery technology power output: Plug-In Hybrid = 68 kW
    • Plug-In Hybrid battery system capacity of 9.8 kWh is used to calculate consumers' Federal Tax
  • Credit incentive
    • Sonata Plug-In Hybrid can be charged using 120V power grid 120V (Level 1) under 9 hours 240V (Level 2) under 3 hours
  • Sonata Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) will be sold in 10 ZEV States: California, Connecticut, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Vermont

EXTERIOR FEATURES

The next generation Sonata Hybrid was released in June 2015, with a net system output of 193 horsepower and 44 highway MPG. It will be followed by the all-new Plug-in Hybrid variant (shown below) coming in the Fall 2015 with an estimated 93 MPGe and class-leading 24 mile All-Electric Range (AER)
