Advanced technologies on the 2.0T Powertrain: Twin-scroll turbocharger combined with GDI technology

Twin-scroll turbocharger design recovers even more energy from the exhaust than a single-scroll turbocharger. Benefits of a twin-scroll design are:

    • Improved combustion efficiency
    • Low engine-speed efficiency - minimize turbo lag
    • Kinetic exhaust gas energy is not wasted or trapped
    • Cooler cylinder temperatures
    • Lower exhaust temperatures
    • Leaner air/fuel ratio - lower emissions and improved fuel economy
    • Better pressure distribution in the exhaust ports and more efficient delivery of exhaust gas
       energy to the turbocharger's turbine

The new Eco trim features a 1.6L Turbo GDI 4-cylinder engine that's mated with a segment first 7-speed DCT transmission for an efficient combination of fuel economy and performance

    • Horsepower 178 HP @ 5500 rpm
    • Torque: 195 lb-ft @ 1500-4500 rpm
    • Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI)
    • Aluminum block and head
    • DOHC 16 valve
    • Dual Camshaft Continuously Variable
       Valve Timing (D-CVVT)

    ADVANCED SAFETY TECHNOLOGY

Sonata includes an abundant list of Standard safety features

    Common Safety

    Active Safety
Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) with Traction Control System (TCS)
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and
       Brake Assist

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) with individual tire indicator

    Passive Safety
Advanced dual front airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, driver knee
       airbag, roof-mounted side-curtain airbags

Seatbelt pretensioners take the slack out of seatbelts in the event of a certain collision
    • Energy Absorbing Front Seats- Forces in a rear-impact collision are managed and absorbed
in a systematic way by the seat foam, seatback and head restraint.
    Helps to reduce head and
neck injuries in the event of a rear-end collision

    Additional Safety

    Rearview backup camera—optional on SE

    Blind Spot Detection (BSD) system—optional
on Sport and ECO; standard on Limited and
       Sport 2.0T:
       — Detects vehicles in the driver’s blind spot;
provides the driver with an audio and visual
alert when an obstruction is detected

    Lane Departure Warning (LDW) —optional
on Limited and Sport 2.0T: Monitors both broken
and solid lanes on the highway using a camera
mounted near the interior mirror; at speeds above
40 mph, LDW alerts the driver when the vehicle  leaves the lane without using the turn signal
by providing an audible and visual warning:
      — Bad weather and skid marks on the road may cause a false indicator
      — System can be turned on or off with a switch

Forward Collision Warning (FCW)—optional on Limited and Sport 2.0T

Automatic High Beam Assist—optional on Limited and Sport 2.0T

Rear parking assistance system—optional on Limited and Sport 2.0T

Smart Cruise Control with stop/start capability—optional on Limited and
Sport 2.0T: Radar-assisted, automatically maintains a preset distance between
vehicles at a pre-selected speed; SCC operates like regular cruise control
when there are no other vehicles in front:
       — When there is another vehicle in front, SCC engages the brakes automatically
and slows the vehicle to maintain speed with the vehicle in front while retaining the
           preset distance
       — The driver can select one of four distance settings
       — Includes Stop/Start Function: When activated, Sonata will automatically come
to a complete stop when the vehicle ahead stops — the driver does not need to engage the
           brake:
            · The vehicle will then restart automatically if the vehicle ahead starts within 3 seconds;
after 3 seconds, the Sonata can resume speed by tapping the accelerator pedal or
pressing the Resume button on the steering wheel
       — Smart Cruise Control can be switched to “normal” cruise control by holding the
distance selector down for 1–2 seconds

Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) with automatic vehicle hold—optional on Limited and Sport
2.0T: Replaces hand or foot pedal parking brake; EPB releases when the transmission is
shifted out of Park; automatic hold will engage the parking brake automatically after the brake
is depressed, without foot on the pedal; the EPB will disengage automatically when the
       accelerator is depressed
