Advanced Safety Technology

  • Electronically Controlled Air Suspension: provides continuous smooth ride under a variety of driving conditions and maintains consistent vehicle height and pitch regardless of number of passengers or load
  • Continuous Damping Control (CDC): when driving normally, the damping force is adjusted automatically to ensure superior ride comfort; damping force is increased for enhanced precision, stability and control; also offers Sport Mode that adjusts suspension, steering feel and transmission shift points
  • Vehicle Ride Height Control: vehicle height can be increased 1-1/4 inches for additional suspension travel and ground clearance which provides greater comfort on rough roads. This also allows ease of entry and exit and greater curb height. The vehicle ride height returns to normal ride height at approximately 45 mph; ride height is lowered further at higher highway speeds
  • Lane-Departure Warning System (LDWS): monitors both broken and solid lanes on the highway using a camera mounted near the interior mirror; at speeds over approximately 40 mph, LDWS alerts driver when vehicle leaves the lane without using a turn signal by “shaking” the seatbelt and providing an audio and visual warning when a danger is imminent (Note: bad weather and skid marks on the road may cause a false indication of danger— that’s why the system also includes an ON/OFF switch)
    — If the system determines the driver crossed a normal lane, an audio
and visual signal warning will occur, followed by the seat belt “shaking” to alert the
    — If the system determines the driver crossed the center line, the seatbelt will “shake”
immediately followed by audio and visual warnings
  • Vehicle Stability Management (VSM) System: with Pre-Collision Warning integrates ESC, Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), Smart Cruise Control, Seatbelt Tensioning System and Gauge Cluster warnings:
    1. When the possibility of an impact is detected, a warning light and chime are activated
    2. When the risk is high, these are supplemented by the seatbelt shaking to give a haptic warning and the brakes are automatically preset on emergency standby
    3. When a collision is impending, the seatbelt pre-tensioning and automatic deceleration with Brake Assist (BAS) is mobilized; all systems function unobtrusively and automatically without the driver losing any element of overall control allowing the driver to take evasive action; if desired, the driver can turn VSM off using a switch to the left of the steering wheel
  • Smart Cruise Control (SCC): radar assisted, automatically maintains a preset distance between vehicles at the pre-selected speed:
    1. SCC operates like regular cruise control when there are no vehicles in front
    2. When there is another vehicle in front, SCC engages the brakes automatically and slows down the vehicle to maintain speed with the vehicle in front while retaining the preset distance
    3. Note: Driver can select one of three settings—the default setting is Distance 3. For example, if driving at 50 mph, Distance 3 is approximately 180 feet, Distance 2 is approximately 130 feet and Distance 1 is approximately 85 feet.
    4. 4-wheel disc brakes: 4-sensor, 4-channel with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) provides the ability to brake and steer, Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) keeps the braking smooth and level, and Brake Assist monitors brake pedal pressure
    5. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) keeps the vehicle on the intended path in curves — The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) states that ESC lowers single vehicle crashes by 41%
    6. Traction Control System (TCS) helps maintain traction, when needed
    7. Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering (EHPS): uses an electric motor to drive the pump so there is less drag on the engine
    8. High-Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights with LED turn signal indicators: more effectively illuminate the road at night—includes Adaptive Front Lighting System (AFLS) with auto-leveling and automatic headlights— lights point into a turn using steering angle sensors for added illumination of the road, includes daytime running lights
    9. Fog lights: work with low beams for added night vision
    10. Visibility Features: wiper deicer: rain-sensing wipers and auto-defogger; humidity and rain sensors located behind the interior mirror

  • Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) replaces hand or foot pedal parking brake; EPB releases when transmission is shifted out of Park
  • Automatic Vehicle Hold: assists the driver, at a stop, by holding the vehicle on an incline or decline; releases when accelerator is applied
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS): monitors tire pressure and alerts driven when tire pressure on one or more tires is low
  • Parking Guide System (PGS): includes a 2-position rearview camera with guidance lines and distance indicator, plus audio indicators to assist as the driver parks the EQUUS
  • Dual power-folding heated auto-dimming side mirrors with turn signal indicators and approach lamps: can be operated by the interior
door-mounted switch or with the Proximity Key lock and unlock buttons

(In Case of Accident)
  • Nine Airbags: Advanced dual front airbags, front and rear seat-mounted side-impact airbags, driver knee airbag, roof-mounted side-curtain airbags
  • Electronic active front head restraints with power controls: activate electronically to protect against neck injury; when the seat slides forward or rearward, the height of the headrest automatically adjusts, increasing both comfort and stability in a rear impact
  • Electronic seatbelt pretensioners: take the slack out of seatbelts in the event of a serious accident
